Fright night: Halloween cocktails across London

Friday 27 October 2017 by Jessica Mendoza

Halloween cocktails are a great way to mark the occasion without having to don a scary mask, and London has a good selection to choose from.

Halloween is undoubtedly one of the most fun celebrations during the year, but once you hit a certain age, it’s time to mark the occasion in a different manner. It’s not all about plastic masks and trick or treating, but pumpkin carving and seasonal food and drinks.

Among the best ways to enjoy a more grown-up Halloween experience is to sample some of the themed cocktails that are being created for the end of October. If you’re staying at a serviced apartment in London this Halloween, you should certainly check these out.

Witches’ Brew – Dirty Martini

Just one look at the impressive colour-changing concoction that is Witches’ Brew will convince you that Dirty Martini has well and truly entered into the spirit of Halloween. Combining rum with midnight blue rhubarb syrup, this very special cocktail has a vial of acidic lime juice on the side. Sweet liquorice and pomegranate molasses drip down the sides of the glass to complete the finished look.

Witches’ Brew is available at Dirty Martini locations across London between October 27th and 31st.

The Devil’s Claw – Balthazar

A cherry-flavoured dessert wine gives the Devil’s Claw cocktail at Balthazar in Covent Garden its signature bloody colour. Mixed with Campari and gin, it’s sure to go down a treat. If cherry isn’t your flavour, then try the Spawn is Watching or The Apparition, which have also been introduced for the Halloween period, or Balthoween, as Balthazar has named it!

Balthoween runs from October 28th to 31st.

She’s My Cherry Pie – London Cocktail Club

It’s all about the tequila at the Oxford Circus location of the London Cocktail Club, where Halloween has a distinctive Day of the Dead quality to it. Among the cocktails on offer is She’s My Cherry Pie, which was the winner of a bespoke drinks competition. Mixologist Sarah Berkhout teamed tequila with green Chartreuse, black cherry puree, lime and cinnamon, before finishing it off with whipped egg white.

London Cocktail Club is marking Halloween from October 28th to 31st.

El Vimador – Junkyard Golf Club

For a cocktail containing a few flavours from your childhood, but with an adult kick, look no further than El Vimador. It’s Junkyard Golf Club’s combination of tequila, Vimto and lime, topped up with ginger beer for a seasonal spicy finish. The signature cocktail makes up just one part of the quirky venue’s Day of the Dead-themed celebrations.

El Vimador will be served for one night only on October 31st.

Smashing Pumpkin Fizz – Voltaire Bar

One of the most elegant cocktails showcasing flavours of the season this Halloween is being offered at Voltaire Bar. Smashing Pumpkin Fizz sees prosecco given an autumnal feel, with pumpkin puree, pear cognac and vodka added. It is just one of the beverages available for Halloween at the bar, which is also serving concoctions called The Witch’s Heart and cauldron sharing fish bowls entitled Zombie and Dead Man’s Kiss.

Get yourself along to the bar on October 31st if you wish to try one of these themed cocktails.
