Hundreds of naked Mancunians make their art debut this month as Manchester's The Lowry arts centre marks its tenth anniversary with an unforgettable new exhibition.
If you're thinking of visiting Manchester over the summer, it's a must-see! Summer is traditionally a time when leisure visitors rather than business travellers book in to SACO's Manchester serviced apartments, and this year there's plenty to see (in every sense…)
"Everyday People" celebrates Manchester old and new
How did an American artist persuade hundreds of Manchester residents to turn up undressed at 5am, be bussed around the city and pose for group photographs at nine different Manchester locations?
Promise them a Ewan McGregor appearance, apparently. But whatever their motivation, they're part of a unique cultural artifact that simultaneously recalls L S Lowry's paintings and celebrates the new arts- and entertainment-driven economy in Manchester.
The specially commissioned project from American artist Spencer Tunick has been unveiled at The Lowry as part of its tenth birthday celebrations. Tunick managed to take photographs in nine different Manchester locations, both indoors and outdoors: Angel Meadow, Dantzic Street, under Dantzic Street bridge, at Peel Park, Castlefield, Sportcity, the Concorde hangar at Manchester Airport and even at The Lowry itself.
As well as the photography on display, there's also a documentary film to satisfy your curiosity about how the project was accomplished.
You can visit the exhibition until 26th September – entry is free.
