SACO has climbed 10 places in an annual national employee survey, securing its position as the best small travel company to work for in the UK.
SACO, which was first listed in The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For supplement last year at 67th has worked its way up to 57th place in the 2010 league table.
The survey, which is run by Best Companies, asks staff to anonymously rate their bosses and score their company. The leading businesses are then named in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For league table.
The strong leadership and team spirit has been rewarded with a huge rise in bookings during the last year which has seen turnover increase by 30 per cent.
Lesley Freed, SACO chief executive, said:
"It’s no secret that the last couple of years have been tough for the industry. But we were determined not to let our customer service suffer and rather than shedding staff, we decided the best approach was to set a clear vision and keep our staff engaged, motivated and positive.
“It’s great to see that this strategy appears to be working which is reflected in our increased bookings. The icing on the cake is national recognition through this prestigious award.”
SACO has introduced a range of innovative schemes to motivate staff and help drive the company through the recession including ‘learning lunches’ where SACO employees teach other staff new skills and a playing card game which challenges staff to come up with new ideas to improve customer service levels and greater team morale.
This is the second consecutive year SACO has been listed in The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For list. This year the company has been ranked 57th overall, rising 10 places from its position last year.
The accolade comes after SACO received two stars for the second year running in the 2010 Best Companies awards. SACO was one of only 140 organisations to gain two stars out of 900 entrants.
