Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a helping of stuffing to accompany the traditional Christmas dinner, according to a survey commissioned by serviced apartment company, SACO.
40 per cent of the festive survey participants said that the popular Christmas dinner accompaniment would be missed more than crackers, sherry, headache tablets and even Grandma if it was accidentally forgotten.
More than half of people (55 per cent) felt that cooking their own Christmas meal for the family to enjoy was the ideal festive dinner. However if they had the chance to invite a celebrity chef to cook for them on the day, Jamie Oliver was voted the favourite (37 per cent). The findings come just as the cheeky chef has been crowned the author of the UK’s fastest selling non-fiction book in recorded history.
The survey also found that if Grandma couldn’t make Christmas lunch, David Cameron would be the preferred politician to take her place, beating Nick Clegg, Ed Miliband, Nick Griffin and Caroline Lucas to the top spot with 53 per cent of all votes.
Forgetting to pack a CD of festive music was also considered to be the biggest Christmas spoiler above board games, Grandma, a camera and the season’s best party outfit.
Lesley Freed, chief executive at SACO said: “One of the most surprising results is that so many people enjoy cooking at Christmas and it goes to show how much people still enjoy creating a delicious spread for the family.
“Cooking in the apartments is something we know our own guests enjoy when they stay with us and, to encourage some festive cooking, we have produced ‘The SACO Kitchen’ recipe booklet for people who stay with us this Christmas.
“I’m not quite sure our mulled wine recipe lives up to Jamie’s, but it’s worth a go!”
The booklet is distributed in all welcome packs in SACO’s 25 locations across the UK allowing guests to try out recipes created by the company’s own employees.
