Christmas Markets Worth Braving the Outdoors ForMonday 14 November 2016 by Sarah Knight The nights are drawing in, the clocks have gone back and there’s a definite chill in the air – but it’s nothing a good Christmas Market won’t fix. It’s time to start feeling festive. This year you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to Christmas Markets, so here are our top five across the UK – mulled wine at the ready…
The city of Bath is beautiful all year around, but from the 24th of November until the 11th of December the glistening lights of the Bath Christmas Market are set against the stunning historical buildings of the Roman Baths, creating a magical and festive atmosphere.
If you’re a fan of local produce, then this is the market for you, as local suppliers come together and line the streets with over 170 stalls – including glassware, clothes, toys, food and drink. When you’ve picked up your Christmas gifts and are feeling suitably full of Christmas cake and mulled wine, head on over to the ice rink or glow-in-the-dark crazy golf course at nearby Royal Victoria Park.

Manchester has several markets on offer from the 10th of November until the 20th of December across the city, depending on what you’re looking for. The main Manchester Christmas Market is an award-winning event and month-long celebration of all things yule, spread across more than 200 stalls in Albert Square, Central Manchester.
If your Christmas Market wish list includes Stollen and Bratwurst then the German-style market at St. Ann’s Square is perfect for you. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a little more variety, the international Christmas Market at Brazennose Street has a globally-sourced selection of jewellery and specialty foods.
SACO Manchester – Piccadilly is just a 15 minute walk from the main market and offers spacious studio, one, and two bedroom apartments – the perfect base from which to explore everything the city has to offer.
Birmingham is home to the largest German market held outside of Germany and Austria – the Frankfurt Christmas Market, in town from the 17th to the 29th of December. Head down to Victoria Square and soak up the festive atmosphere while you feast on traditional German delights – including pastries, meats and of course, beer.
After you’ve exhausted the many stalls on offer, pop next door to the Christmas Craft Fair which extends onto Chamberlain Square and has a variety of handmade gifts on offer, most of which are produced locally.

The Christmas Market at Cardiff takes place from the 10th of November until the 23rd of December and is a quaint, traditional market in the centre of the city. You’ll find a fantastic range of artwork on sale – including photographic prints, artwork and cards, as well as toys, ceramics, jewellery and everything in between.
After you’ve had a browse of the local wares on offer, stroll over to the funfair and ice rink at Winter Wonderland for a thrilling afternoon skating and eating street food. Rumour has it that Father Christmas himself usually makes and appearance…
