Friday 10 July 2015 by Lezley Harris-Morgan We caught up with Lezley, our apartment manager in Cardiff, for a brief history of the city and her top tips for a weekend away.

Cardiff is the largest city in Wales and the ninth largest city in the UK. The city is the country's chief commercial centre, home of the Welsh rugby team, the Welsh national media, and the base for the national Assembly for Wales. Cardiff is a significant tourist centre and the most popular visitor destination in Wales with huge events both sporting and cultural held at numerous venues in and around the city. We are proud to boast our World class Millennium Stadium right in the heart of the city just down the road from SACO Cathedral Road Apartments.

Caerdydd is the Welsh name for the city and is often heard in conversation in one of the many bilingual café bars on the popular Pontcanna Street. Cardiff history is easy to see in all areas of the city with our 11th century Motte and Bailey Castle, Victorian and Edwardian arcades and the stunning architecture of Cardiff Bay, built in the heyday of the city’s booming coal industry. As for modern amenities the new St. David’s shopping centre houses all your shopping desirers under one roof including top restaurants, such as Wahaca which specialises in Mexican food and is the first one to open outside of London.

Cardiff has developed massively in the last 2 decades with the regeneration of the bay area home to the Millennium Centre designed by Architect Jonathan Adams. The venue is surrounded by top restaurants and bars with the large open air spaces around it holding the yearly food festival. For those who want to feel the sea breeze the local speed boats are out every day from the main jetty, there is also boat taxis from Bute Park which is a short stroll from the apartment directly to Cardiff bay.

All modern transport options are available to and from the apartment, the train and bus station are situated 1.3 miles away. Cardiff airport is 12.8 miles away. Parking is available in the car park at the rear of the building at £5 per night. The car park holds up to 10 vehicles.
