Nottingham – The Insider Guide

Monday 03 November 2014 by Vanessa Gondolo Whether you're visiting Nottingham for a day or a month, check out the SACO Nottingham team's Insider Guide to make sure you visit the best places in and around the city.

Just visiting for a few days? You won't want to miss this…

If you’re only planning to be in Nottingham for a few days, then make sure to tick these hot spots off your list! I would recommend a trip to Old Market Square, a symbol of the city and conveniently located in the heart of the city’s shops and attractions. Regular fairs and markets are also held here so there’s often a great atmosphere and something to do.

Just a 13 minute walk from SACO Nottingham and you’ll find yourself in the lush green surroundings of the Nottingham Arboretum, a relaxing and beautiful way to enjoy some fresh air and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. A great place for a picnic on a nice day too! Or ,if you enjoy a bit of adventure then I would highly recommend the City of Caves experience! Take the tour of underground caves and passages that date back to 1250AD. A great way to learn about the history of the city and do something a bit different.

The best places to eat drink and relax in Nottingham...

Nottingham is packed full of restaurants and bars, so you definitely won’t go hungry! But here’s my recommendation for restaurants that you simply can’t miss! La Rock Restaurant is simply amazing, very well priced and always getting rave reviews. The food is a mixture of French/British and is quite contemporary. Make sure you call and book in advance to avoid missing out!

If you’re in need of a coffee and a little pick-me-up during the day, then head to Rumble Tums, a community café outside of the city that supports people in the city with a wide range of needs. The food is all homemade and really good – an exceptional selection of cakes and bread! I would recommend getting a slice of the Bara Brith.

Finally, for a great place to take the whole family or just the special someone then try Emilios Greek restaurant, you’ll receive a warm welcome and the food is fantastic. The atmosphere and the plate smashing is also an unforgettable experience!

A trip to Nottingham just wouldn’t be complete without…

… Learning all about the legend of Robin Hood! SACO Nottingham is just around the corner from the stunning Nottingham Castle where you can find out all about this legendary figure. Or why not try the brilliant Robin Hood guided walk through the city. It’s also a great way to get to know the city as well as the tales of Robin Hood.
