SACO People Insider - Meet SiggiThursday 22 October 2015 by Jasmine Trickey This week we met with one of our longest standing members of staff, Siggi Foster. Now the Head of Business Development, her role with SACO has developed hugely as the business has evolved over the years. We caught up with her to learn more about her time here, her background and what she likes to get up to in her spare time!
What are your main duties as Head of Business Development at SACO?
I lead and manage a sales team of business development managers and executives to deliver stretching sales targets for the regional locations. The team and I build and develop relationships with local, national and global companies and oversee new account implementations.
I’m also an account manager for a couple of our key accounts.
How long have you worked for SACO, and how has your role developed over the years?
I’ve been with the business for 11 years and 9 months! I started working at SACO as a part-time Reservations Executive, when our offices were based at No.40 Whiteladies Road – we were a much smaller operation back then! After a couple of years, I was promoted to Business Development Manager for the Thames, Bristol and Bath regions, before taking on my current role.
Where were you working before you joined SACO?
I actually trained as a bilingual business translator and owned my own translation business for a while. I’m originally from Germany so I speak fluent German, and also some Spanish. I then moved into the travel industry and spent a few years working for Hourmont Ski Tours as a Contractor and Booking Agent, followed by Australian tour operator Austravel, where I met SACO’s current Marketing Director, Jo Redman! After taking a few years out to raise my family, I worked for an Independent Travel Agency for 7 years before I finally joined SACO. It’s been quite a journey!
What are the key things you’ve learnt during your time here?
You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it, and you should never judge people - you don’t know what journey they might be on.
A bit more about you!
When you’re not at work, where will we find you?
Hiking up a mountain! I’ve been up Penny Fan in the Brecon Beacons, Catbells and Scafell Pike in the Lake District and obviously Mount Snowdon. More locally, I like to go on walks in the Mendips up Somerset’s Cheddar Gorge. You might also find me doing Pilates, and I spend a lot of time in my garden. If not, I’ll be at the pub…
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Italy! I’ve travelled extensively around the country and love its beautiful landscapes. This year I went on a road trip through Sicily, but I’ve also been to Lake Garda, Tuscany, Rome and the Amalfi Coast.
If you could visit one destination that you’ve never been to before, where would you go?
New York – I’d like to understand what the big fuss is all about!
What’s your favourite SACO destination?
SACO Holborn – Lambs Conduit Street. The apartments aren’t our latest addition to the portfolio, but they have a unique charm and the location is just amazing! I really like the Italian restaurant next door, Ciao Bella.
What’s the most useful piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Always end the day with a positive thought; however bad things turned out today, there’s always an opportunity to make a fresh start tomorrow.
Name three things you like…
Sitting by the fire with a glass of red wine! I also enjoy a long walk on a Sunday afternoon, and meeting up with family or friends for a meal.
…And three things you don’t…
This is a tough question… but I would say arrogance tops my list! I don’t like Monday mornings either (who does?) or supermarket shopping – I always send my husband out to trek around the isles!
Person you’d most like to have dinner with?
Thanks for your time Siggi!
