Sightseeing in New York

Thursday 16 April 2015 by Irina Catana New York is home to a host of incredible sights from famous landmarks to stunning skyscrapers. Check out our recommendations of must-see sites here!

A trip to New York would not be complete without a visit to all the city’s best loved sights, so here is a guide to our favourites!

What to see

The Empire State Building stands prominently above the city’s imposing skyline and is regarded as an American cultural icon, which you will have most probably seen in many major films and TV series. Standing at an almighty 1,250 ft, the views from the top are out of this world – you just have to climb the 102 floors to get there (not really - there are 73 elevators to take you!).

Central Park is a focal point of the city – a 250 acre green space that lies discreetly beneath the towering skyline of New York City. It remains as one of the best loved spots for both locals and tourists, providing a welcome seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy open expanses such as Sheep Meadow, landmarks like Strawberry Fields and be sure to spot the stunning design and landscape architecture.

New York’s MoMA has been a key contributor in developing and collecting modernist art – some might say it’s the daddy of all the modern art galleries in the world. For an unparalleled overview of modern and contemporary art, this gallery is a must see during your visit!

Madison Square Garden is one of the world’s most famous arenas. It is a multi-purpose indoor arena that hosts everything from wrestling and tennis to music concerts and theatres. There’s bound to be something on worth seeing during your trip!

The Rockefeller Centre is situated centrally within Midtown Manhattan and is one of the city’s most notable landmarks. You can experience a backstage tour around NBC Studios, enjoy roof top views from the observatory and, at Christmas, the famous ice rink comes to town surrounded by giant Christmas trees and festive lights.
