Tuk Tuk Glasgow
The nationally celebrated Indian street food restaurant Tuk Tuk has come to Glasgow - just a short walk from our apartments. Of course, we thought it worth getting the low down…
Since going down a storm in Edinburgh, the Indian street food experience known as Tuk Tuk has spread to Glasgow. The unique concept behind Tuk Tuk is it’s all day dining experience, providing quick and easy food which is fragrant and comforting, yet an exciting shock to the senses.
Inspired by the humble sustenance that serves travellers, children, rickshaw-wallahs and office workers in modern day India, Tuk Tuk’s signature dish is its chicken lollipops and Tuk Tuk chutney. Authentic dishes are given a modern twist with Puri yoghurt bombs (Indian fried bread with yoghurt, tamarind, chickpeas, & mint) and a range of popular Indian drinks such as Mint Mambo and Lassi’s (a yoghurt drink) in flavours such as mango, coconut and lychee.
Of course, the dishes Tuk Tuk is famous for are still on the cards. You’ve simply got to try the Bhel Puri - a cold crunchy puff rice dish with chopped tomato, onion and tamarind; the Daal Makhni - a slow cooked black lentil curry; or their classic spicy chicken biryani.
Locals of Glasgow love it – simply because of the tender chicken, exceptional service and lively atmosphere. The small plate sharing concept is sociable and informal, allowing you to savour every mouthful and try a bit of everything – a bit like Spanish tapas. But it’s the authenticity of the contemporary menu that makes this place a hidden gem.
Just a twenty-minute walk from our apartments on Cochrane Street, Tuk Tuk Glasgow is the perfect place to dine and experience the bustle of Bollywood, located on the main thoroughfare of Sauchiehall Street. Just remember there’s no alcohol so BYOB – bring your own bottle - although the selection of refreshing soft juices and Lassi’s are well worth going without.
