Ways to spend a weekend in Liverpool

Monday 30 June 2014 by Hollie Swain However long you spend in Liverpool, whether it be a day, a weekend or longer, there is plenty to keep you entertained. Take a look at this guide to find out some of the best ways to spend a weekend in this vibrant, exciting city.

The only way to start a weekend of sight-seeing is by fuelling up the right way. So head over to The Tavern Company where you can find Liverpool’s best and award winning cooked breakfast. It’s pretty hearty and the service is second to none. The American Breakfast comes recommended too.

If you had a bit of a lie-in and missed breakfast, then hop over to The Alma de Cuba for a spot of brunch. This great little place has a fantastic atmosphere and even features a Gospel Choir for Sunday brunch!

After breakfast, aid digestion with a stroll over to the docks where you will find a huge array of museums and galleries. For the art lovers The Tate Liverpool is the perfect option, featuring works by world famous and local artists. For the music fans, immerse yourself in the world of The Beatles at The Beatles Story.

Before you know it, it’s time for a late-lunch and a sit-down. The Albert Docks is one of the best places in the city for a bite to eat in a buzzing atmosphere. The choice of cafes, bars and restaurants is seemingly endless and ever growing. We recommend lunch at The Pumphouse, a cosy pub in a converted Victorian building. Famous for its eclectic menu, impressive building and great location.

From there you’re only a minutes’ walk away from the famous Merseyside Maritime Museum where you can learn all about the rich history of the shipping port. A truly fascinating insight into what is a huge part of the cities heritage – a must see.

There is so much going on in the vibrant Albert Docks area that you can easily spend an afternoon meandering around, dipping in and out of cafes, shops and museums. You’ll also find the Echo Arena Liverpool here which regularly holds fantastic world class live events.

For dinner with a view, head to Panoramic 34. Set 300 feet above sea level and on the 34th floor, Panoramic 34 features luxurious floor to ceiling windows, cool modern décor and a delicious menu as well as a stunning 360 degree view of the city.

Looking for a place to rest your weary head? SACO The Serviced Apartment Company has access to a selection of fantastic serviced apartments all over the city and is bound to have the perfect pad for your Liverpool getaway.

After a day of sight-seeing on Saturday, why not spend Sunday exploring the cities great shopping scene? Liverpool ONE is located in the heart of Liverpool and is the place to be for any keen high-street shoppers. Packed with hundreds of stores, cafes and restaurants you can easily spend a day here.

Not into shopping? Why not hop on a train to Crosby beach (only 30 minutes from Liverpool station) to see ‘Another Place’ by Anthony Gormley, a beach art installation featuring 100 life-size figures staring out to sea. A truly mesmerising and once in a lifetime experience.

So, what are you waiting for? Liverpool is a fantastic, vibrant city that has so much to offer. Well worth a visit.
