What's on in Bristol November 2016Monday 31 October 2016 by Florence Evans Despite the days getting darker and bright Autumn days ending, a city as vibrant as Bristol would never leave you at a loss of things to do. From theatre productions to festive light switch-ons, here are the events in Bristol you won't want to miss this season.
Billy Elliot at Bristol Hippodrome
After a decade in London’s West End, this iconic musical is coming to Bristol, and it’s definitely worth seeing. This sensational, heart-warming story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds from the boxing ring to the stage provides a show like no other. Whether you are a fan of ballet or not, this contemporary classic is an ideal watch for anyone. Enjoy a soundtrack by Elton John alongside a comic and uplifting performance - sure to keep your toes tapping for time to come.
Performances of Billy Elliot are shown through most of November so book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment!
Bonfire Night celebrations in Bristol
Remember remember the 5th of November…whether you want a family-friendly atmosphere or a bit of a buzz, Bristol has so many displays on around the city for anyone to watch. We recommend the display at Bristol Zoo gardens held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of November – perfect for all the family. The display is set near the Clifton Downs, a gorgeous place to watch the fireworks go off with a bang and enjoy hot food, drinks and other treats. These family-friendly fireworks are also quiet enough for little ones and animals, so no loud noises during the display.

The Christmas Lights switch on in Clifton Village
The elegant setting of Clifton Village with its many independent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars is the perfect place to kick-start that festive spirit. A 50ft Christmas tree will be placed in the centre of Victoria Park, and carol singing and musical performances will build up to the big switch on at 6.30pm. And if that doesn’t get you feeling festive, take a walk around the nearby boutique shopping outlets adorned with decorations and fairy lights and soak up the seasonal atmosphere in Clifton Village to get you in the mood.
The big switch will be held on Wednesday the 9th of November at Victoria Park, so make a note in your diary to come and visit!
Ice Skating at the At-Bristol Millennium Square
Always popular, the real ice rink at the At-Bristol Millennium Square provides a seasonal slide into the festive season, and a great day out for everyone. If you reckon you are the next Dancing On Ice star then there are daily Disco Boots sessions if you want to get your groove on, running from 6pm, 7pm and 8pm each day. For the kids, there are child-friendly sessions held regularly and even skate aids in the shape of penguins or bananas for two, available for use.
Make the most of Bristol’s only ice rink, open from the 5th of November, and book your tickets online to benefit from a 10% discount.
