Oxford’s green getaway
To the west of leafy north Oxford lies Port Meadow; an ancient flood plain on the banks of the River Thames.
Follow the canal path from town and you’ll reach Port meadow in a matter minutes. Relish in the acres of green grass and the cows grazing, and with a woodland to explore there’s something for everyone.
A stroll over Rainbow Bridge across the River Thames will lead you to the village of Bisney, home to the historical pub The Perch.
The Perch has a large garden reaching down to the banks of the Thames; known to be a favoured spot of C. S. Lewis.
Whether for a rejuvenating drink or to sit back and enjoy food with friends, a trip to The Perch is not to be missed.
Carry on along the Thames towpath: either heading south back into the city, or take the northern path heading for Wolvercote. You’ll pass historic locks, ruins, as well as more gastro delights; The Trout Inn being a fine example.
