5 Unexpected Things to Do on Valentine's Day
Thursday 13 February 2020 by Jodie Alker One of the most romantic days of the year is just around the corner which is a great excuse to show your family, close friends or your partner just how much you love them. You might usually go out to your favourite restaurant dressed up in your fanciest clothes and reminisce about all the fun times you’ve had together with a glass of wine. However, for those of you who are looking to show your love in a slightly unusual way, or just looking for a fun Valentine’s themed activity to enjoy with friends, we’ve put together a list of some great things to do this Valentine’s Day to have an unexpected, loved filled day. Read on and see what takes your fancy, we can ensure you that your Valentine's Day will be cliché-free with these creative, non-boring, (and non-cheesy!) ideas.
1. Camping or glamping

Whether you prefer camping or glamping, they can both be a great way to spend quality time together in a stunning environment. Being surrounded by nature can allow you to reconnect as you’ll be somewhere where you can’t get distracted by your phone or the TV and instead enjoy some alone time with the people you love. For those not overly keen on the great outdoors, glamping is a great alternative allowing you to get all the experiences from camping whilst enjoying your own home comforts. Stuck on location ideas? Derbyshire and the Peak District are both perfect places to explore and set up camp. You can enjoy a beautiful walk along the moors, snuggle up in an old English pub or attempt to spot some local wildlife. Don’t forget your camera!
2. Chocolate tasting and truffle making

Trying out a truffle making workshop is a great way to mix the traditional with something a little different, and you get to eat some delicious treats at the end of it! Taking part in a truffle-making class means you can make some very thoughtful handmade chocolates together instead of going out in a rush the day before and buying some, shall we say non-thoughtful, delicacies. Spend the night together learning from some of the chocolate-making industry’s most creative individuals, and take home some amazing handmade chocolate truffles that you can both enjoy as a souvenir. In London, some of the most beloved chocolate makers are putting on truffle making classes for this very special day so make sure you book in quick to make your day is that extra bit memorable.
3. Paint and sip class

Looking for a great present to gift someone but want to enjoy a drink in the process? Well, a paint and sip class could be the perfect gift. Enjoy a unique experience where you’ll have a qualified artist to help guide you in making a gorgeous painting whilst offering you drinks to help with your creativity. Have some fun creating a piece of artwork whilst sipping on a cocktail and what’s even better is when you’re finished you can take your painting home - so you’ll always have a great memory of that day! There are lots of paint and sip classes happening over the UK including a workshop hosted by Events by Jewelz in the creative city of Bristol.
4. Karaoke

Okay, this one is slightly cheesy (our apologies), but for all the heartthrobs out there, what better way to celebrate your special bond with someone than to sing about it? Mix up Valentine’s Day this year and head to a karaoke bar to sing your heart out and duet with your loved one. Choose from classics such as ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ and ‘I Got You babe’ or slow it down with a ballad to really show how you feel. It’s a great informal way to have a fun night out and grow closer by doing something silly! Once you have a few drinks in your system and come to terms with the fact that you are making a complete fool of yourself, you’ll have the time of your life. You’ll find a quirky karaoke bar to sing the night away in most UK cities such as London, Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham – and you don’t have to be a pro to get involved either.
5. Rooftop hot tub cinema
If the thought of going to the cinema delights you, but you want something a little extra, then what could be more different then spending your evening on a rooftop watching a classic film whilst relaxing in a hot tub? Unusual, but sounds amazing! It might be quite chilly, but you’ll have friendship, laughter and plenty of drinks to warm you up. There are quite a few rooftop cinemas in London, so whilst this concept isn’t uncommon, they’ve now gone the extra mile and added hot tubs! The thought might be a little strange but just think - what a memory it’ll be to reminisce over.
