Amsterdam's Boutique Aparthotel Wittenberg Officially Opens

Monday 22 January 2018 by Jessica Mendoza Wittenberg, Amsterdam’s most distinguished boutique aparthotel, has just opened its doors and celebrated its grand opening. To introduce the hotel, guests were treated to exclusive tours of the beautiful canal-side 18th century property and its elegant apartments.

Modern Comfort in a Uniquely Historic Setting

Catering for guests staying for a week or more, the design-led aparthotel is created for the discerning traveller who is looking for a second home whilst based in Amsterdam for pleasure or business. Wittenberg bridges the gap between home and a hotel stay, making it an exciting addition and great alternative to hotels and traditional serviced apartments in Amsterdam.

The majestic, canal-side façade overlooks the Nieuwe Keizersgracht. Each of the 115 apartments has been meticulously restored. The building itself dates back to 1772 and has welcomed generations of people from all walks of life over the last 246 years. With patience and consideration, Wittenberg has been sympathetically restored to its former grandeur over a period of two years, retaining the property’s remarkable original features that tell a story of rich history. Today, the building can be described as 18th century on the outside and yet contemporary, warm and idyllic within – inviting modern travellers to write their own story and make themselves at home.

Each spacious, bright apartment is fully-equipped with a kitchen, free superfast Wi-Fi and a Smart TV with multi-channel choice, offering an urban retreat of comfort. The historic estate is furnished with a myriad of beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, including two central cobbled courtyards and landscaped gardens - exclusive to guests and ideal for gatherings and/or some quiet down time.

It’s located on the eastern side of Amsterdam in the tranquil Plantage district, with a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars in the surrounding area, and only a short walk from the city centre. With its central location and carefully-designed property, Wittenberg expects to cater for a wide range of travellers - from those working away from home for extended periods of time or being relocated, to those who simply want to enjoy Amsterdam for pleasure.

Wittenberg is the newest property and first location in Europe by SACO The Serviced Apartment Company, one of the UK’s leading serviced apartment providers.

Ben Harper, SACO’s Commercial Director, says: “We’re excited to see our move into European locations realized, and we have received feedback from our first guests that the Wittenberg offering is exactly what modern travellers are looking for - a lifestyle option hitting the spot between serviced apartments and hotels. It was also a pleasure to host so many key members of the European relocation community at the opening event and to see that our future plans are exactly aligned to match the trends and challenges that they are managing as global workforces become increasingly mobile.”

Milo Smits, Wittenberg's General Manager, says: “It’s been a real delight welcoming the first guests into the Wittenberg and helping them really feel at home in Amsterdam. We’re proud that we are able to give the attentive service of a boutique hotel with the convenience and independence of residential living as our guests settle into the area for their stay which is for a week or more. We’re very excited to offer our guests such a unique and special place to call home for their stay in Amsterdam.”
